Its mission is to provide ready, relevant, and capable military forces for the Governor or President to call upon and perform a variety of missions.

The Challenge

The capability enhancement target was to determine for each facility the network and compute enhancements necessary to allow 20% of the traditional authorized force structure to perform computer-based training concurrently on equipment that is dedicated for M-Day use.

Benefits

The assessment benefited the OHARNG by providing a comprehensive geolocated database of all network and compute assets in the state. The inventory was used to produce a site-specific determination of compute and network infrastructure needs to effectively train soldiers. The assessment included inventory of facility itself, the current and potential future training space available, the computer and network assets including their utilization, excess capacity, security status, and any safety-related considerations. The assessment data was processed in order to produce a prioritized list of deficiencies with a cost analysis for each of the many potential mitigation strategies.

Solutions

Development Consultants Incorporated performed a state-wide network and compute infrastructure assessment for each of the Ohio Army National Guard’s (OHARNG) 48 facilities with the objective of increasing each facility's computing capability.

An in-person inspection was conducted for each armory to assess the facility itself, the facility’s network infrastructure, and compute resources. The assessment served as a base plan to determine additional infrastructure to support this increased capability. The recommendations that resulted from analysis of the assessment data included prescriptive steps to remediate any equipment, policy, and procedural deficiencies that impede achievement of the objective.

Results

DCI delivered a qualitative and quantitative overview of compute and network deficiencies, price estimates, risk mitigation strategies, and other ancillary observations pertaining to safety, security, reliability, fault tolerance, efficiency, productivity, service management, policy, and procedural improvements, and provided recommendations for increasing each facility's computing capability. All assessment data was compiled for the entire state as well as independently for each facility. The results of the assessment were compiled into a final report and presented to the Chief Information Office (G-6) and the Chief of Staff's Office. In addition, we provided value added services that the customer did not require, expect, or anticipate, such as geo locating asset data, and Agile project management.

[334,329,326,338,332,336,339,331,341,333,340,330,328,343,335,327,325,324,337,342
